We are not a play reading group, nor do we put on stage productions. We read a play for ourselves and then discuss it in the group under the enthusiastic and expert guidance of our Tutor, Mike Gardner, who was once a lecturer in Drama. Mike takes us in a lively and informative way through aspects of a play such as plot, characters, historical background, and production. Where possible we tie in our study of a play with a visit to see it at the Crucible or the Lyceum or by watching it on YouTube. Reading a play to oneself is an acquired skill: plays are not as user-friendly as novels or poems. It is, however, very rewarding once you have the knack.
