This is where we went and what we saw in 2023:

Jan – Sheffield Tutorial Day. Sedimentary, Igneous & Metamorphic Rocks.

Feb – Sheffield Whirlow Brook & Ecclesall Woods. Coal measure series, rock art, erosion and water management measures to retain water in the upper catchments.

Mar – Sheffield City Centre. Building Stones.

Apr – Creswell Crags. Cadeby formation dolomitic limestone, post glacial gorges and prehistoric archaeology.

May – East of Leeds. Contrasting environments of deposition of Pennine Carboniferous Coal Measure Group and Permian Zechstein Group.

Jun – Anston Stones Woods. Permian Cadeby formation, a spectacular gorge, and local building stones in Anston village.

Jul – Knaresborough. The Nidd Gorge rock exposures and the Permo-Carboniferous Unconformity.

Aug – Derbyshire Manifold Valley & Ecton Mine. Lower Carboniferous reef knoll limestones, lagoon limestones, the Manifold valley (disappearing & emerging streams). Ecton copper mine.

Sep – cancelled due to weather.

Oct – Sheffield Wincobank Hill & Ockley Bottom. The Don monocline, Iron age archaeology and the Brigantes queen. Silkstone coal measures & quarry exposures in the Kimberworth area.

Nov – Sheffield General Cemetry & Nether Edge. Grave & Building Stones.

Dec – Sheffield Social.

Mar – Warmsworth.

Apr – Upper Lathkildale.

May – Ashover.

Jun – Chevin Forest, Otley.

Jul – National Stone Centre, Wirksworth.

Aug – Hunshelf, Wortley.

Sep – Northumberland, Coastal Geology (4days).

Oct – Nottingham, Castle & City Centre Building Stones.

Nov – Sheffield, Yorkshire Natural History Museum.
